Our connection with Denmark started in 1986 when we where importing Scandinavian pine from Copenhagen. Country pine furniture was all the rage and we could not get enough of it from our sources in Australia. After some years the “country look” fashion changed although we continued to import from Denmark for our auction rooms. A good friend in Copenhagen was clearing apartments and would fill containers for us of anything and everything that came his way.
One of his shipments had a dining suite by Finn Juhl a Hans Wegner designed sofa and several other pieces of rosewood and teak. In 1997 Mid Century Modern was born. We had space in both the Sydney and Melbourne antique centre’s. Our phone rang constantly from the trade wanting to purchase this stylish 1950’s Danish look.
The Danish Vintage Modern phenomenon was exploding around the world. Shops selling Danish where turning up in Japan, Portugal, England, Spain, all through Europe, New York and other parts of the States and of course Australia. Now South East Asia has got the bug and you can find Danish shops in Bangkok and Korea.
In our show room at 140 Magill Road Norwood in South Australia we have a range of affordable imported contemporary Danish furniture, painting, objects as well as Scandinavian antiques and retro. We specialize in Danish sofas in leather and usually have at least 20 in stock at all times. Armchairs, dining tables and chairs, credenzas, chest of drawers and host of other Danish made can be found at Mid Century Modern. Like us on facebook
